This website is sponsored by Friends of Greece. Our objective is to promote the common good and general welfare of citizens of the United States and Greece. We support economic and financial reform in Greece, which is necessary if the people of Greece are to return to growth and prosperity.

Reform of the government and its processes is one key to the success of this effort.  An important ingredient of effective governance in all countries, including the United States and Greece, is the integrity of the statistics used by policymakers and the public. The credibility of statistics is enhanced if they are produced according to accepted international standards.

The officials who were responsible for producing Greek government statistics in the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) from 2010 to 2015 according to European Union standards have been subject to public criticism and civil and criminal charges for their work for their country in applying international standards to production of Greek statistics.

From the evidence in the public domain and in the press, much of it presented on this website, we conclude that those criticisms and judicial proceedings are unjustified.  Consequently, the pursuit of these cases is damaging the interests of Greece and prospects for Greek economic and financial reform and for Greek economic recovery and prosperity.
